PRESSURE SAND FILTERS INTRODUCTION Filtration of water for removal of suspended impurities is a integral step in the treatment scheme for various applications such as drinking water, process water or tertiary treatment of treated sewage / effluent water. In drinking water, filtration play major role to control suspended solids and very fine impurities like turbidity In process water, filtration is an important treatment step for Ion Exchange Systems for protecting the Ion Exchange Resin from Physical fouling due to suspended impurities present in water & the system become effective for using such kind of pre-treatment. In treated sewage or effluent water, filtration play major role to control remaining part of suspended solids which are not acceptable by Central Pollution Control Board or States PCB. Under our design, we offer various types of Pressure Sand Filters like Dual Media / Multi Media / Side Stream Filtration. The design is based on filtration rate which vary from 5 m3/hr./m2 to 20 m3/hr./m2 depending on the inlet impurities and end use of filtered water. Pressure Filters are vertical type skid mounted of required diameter. The design fabrication and construction is conform to the requirement of IS:2825. The shell will be fabricated from M.S. plates conforming to IS:2041/2062 suitable to withstand design pressure. The minimum thickness of shell and dished ends are given in Technical Data Sheet and include corrosion allowance and mill allowance respectively. The scaling allowance on dished ends is considered as per requirement of IS:2825. The filter will have one pressure tight manhole cover. Each filter will be provided with screwed or flanged connection for inlet, outlet, individual drain connections as necessary and required. All the filters are painted inside with minimum two coats of non-toxic corrosion resistant paint and externally one coat of red oxide primer followed by two coats of synthetic enamel paint. UNDER DRAIN SYSTEM Each filter will be provided with an efficient under drain system comprising of collecting pipes, polypropylene nozzle's as per design & engineering. The entire under drain system will be supported on M.S. Bed Plate or cement concrete supports based on filter vessel diameter. In some cases, header pipes with laterals covered with big size pebbles, to prevent loss of fine Silica Sand are provided. FRONTAL PIPE WORK & VALVES All filters are provided with interconnecting face piping in M.S. comprising of inlet, outlet and back wash lines complete with valves for individual operations. The waste effluents are directed to a drain sump for which a pipe to drain should be connected. FILTER MEDIA The under bed material for the filter consists of two layer of gravels, one layer of coarse, one layer of fine sand and one layer of anthracite (if required) media. In bigger size filters where pipe header with laterals are provided extra big size pebbles are also filled to cover header pipe of collecting system. ACCESSORIES i) Air release valve with connecting piping. ii) 100 mm dia. Dial Bourdon type stainless steel or gun metal pressure gauges with gun metal isolation cock on inlet and outlet lines of filters. iii) Sampling cocks on water inlet and filtered water outlet. iv) Connection with valve for air scouring, in case Air Blower is provided for AIR SCOURING of filter.
