Inception of Digital Teacher Language Lab: • Currently few language labs are available in open market but, unfortunately they are from UK or US based language labs. • They are not ideal for Indian student’s context. The installation and usage mechanism is very lengthy and complicated. Other language Labs need facilitator or Admin or Instructor to guide or start course. They give more emphasis on Administration aspects and reports rather than Content and syllabus which is soul of the Lab. • After discussing with 1000 + Principals and lab faculty, we learn that institutes want an Easy to use Software and student can learn on his own. No Teacher or Administrator is required to launch the course. • In this context, in 2014, we have come up with Digital teacher English Language lab which does not teacher to assist or guide. It’s self-explanatory and very easy to navigate interface. • Since 2014, we have installed in more than 3000 institutions successfully. For learning any language we need 4 things 1) Grammar 2) Vocabulary 3) Phonetics 4) Practice a. Listening b. Speaking c. Reading d. Writing Actually, Purpose of Any language lab is not to teach English from scratch. Language lab purpose is to enhance language but not to teach you language. Before starting language lab, we want user to brush up his/her grammar skills once again. So we have touched all the topics of grammar briefly. Grammar section is like pre requisite to start language lab. We have almost 5000 + vocabulary words which are used in daily life as part of vocabulary builder section Based on the knowledge or standard of student, Vocabulary builder is introduced. Before getting in to Lab we want user to build his vocabulary daily. Learning 10 – 15 words daily is excellent for improving language skills. Then Phonetics is introduced. Phonetics is essential to improve linguistic skills. In phonetics we introduce concepts like Tongue and lip moment Voice modulation, rhythm, Variations in volumes, Intonation, stress etc for proper pronunciation of words. As per our academic advisors, Every day we need to practice some slides from all the sections i.e. Few slides of A1- Listening, A1- Speaking, A1- Reading, A1- Writing etc. This is what we suggest to our schools We will give complete syllabus copy so that you may also plan your own teaching schedule as per your learner needs and their skill and availability of time. Based on the availability of time you can cover the syllabus. More time would need to be devoted to Speaking and Listening section. The main purpose of language lab is speaking English . Student should spend ample time on practicing in speaking section. He/she has to compare his/her phonetics with software recorded voice Phonetics Speaking and Listening are most important in improving language. While Writing and reading you get little time to process in your brain. Processing time is very less in Speaking or listening. One has to listen and understand at same time. While speaking, one has to speak current word and prepare next set of words at same time. So more practice is required in Speaking and Listening. Reading and writing are also essential but Vocabulary, Phonetics, Speaking and Listening are more essential in learning Language. Soft skills can be introduced may be at the end or at intermediate stage depends on your learners age.
