Design awareness workshop for innovation, productivity

MANGALORE: 20 MSME Industries fromYeyyadi Industrial Area are participating in a 'Design Awareness Workshop' conducted by Designers Suresh Navandar and Prof TVP Chowdry in association with District Small Industries Association, Yeyyadi Industrial Area, Mangalore. The workshop which commenced on Monday will end on Friday.

Design Awareness Programme is part of the ambitious MSME's Design Clinic Scheme of Government of India, supported by Ministry of MSME, Government of India and Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation and in coordination with National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad

Navandar and Prof. Chowdry had visited the industries in December 2012 and January 2013, to study the competences and facilities of the participating industries. Based on the observations made during the study, design experts are interacting with industries in a five day workshop on opportunities to improve the production process and develop innovative new products without much capital investment.

K. Jayaraj Pai, President, District Small Industries Association, Mangalore says that innovations are essential for survival of MSME Industries. Nandan Sharlekar of Servel Industries recollects that in his 30 plus years of experience, a delegation of experts from SIDBI had visited Servel to advice on Innovation and 20 years later design experts are visiting Servel on Design and Innovation. He adds: Such interventions will provide the required impetus for innovation by industries. Another participant Vijendra, CEO, SKADS says: The interaction with design experts has been very beneficial in identifying new opportunities in agricultural implements. Other participant Rajkumar from Anjali Industries say: Improvements, tools and techniques suggested are very valuable in improving product quality and finishing in a cost effective way and boosts productivity.
