Govt approves constitution of 7th Pay Commission

New Delhi, Sept 25 (KNN) Government has approved the constitution of the seventh Central Pay Commission today, recommendations are likely to be implemented with effect from January-1, 2016.

“The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has approved the constitution of the seventh Central Pay Commission,” said Finance Minister P Chidambaram here.

The names of the chairperson, members as well as the terms of reference of the seventh Pay Commission will be finalised and announced shortly after consultation with major stakeholders.

The average time taken by a Pay Commission to submit its recommendations is about two years.  Accordingly, the recommendations of the seventh Pay Commission are likely to be implemented with effect from January-1, 2016. 

The fourth, fifth and sixth Central Pay Commissions’ recommendations were implemented in 1986, 1996 and 2006 respectively.

Since India's Independence, six pay commissions have been set up on a regular basis to review and make recommendations on the work and pay structure of all civil and military divisions of the Government of India.
