The H1 procurement from MSEs was 38.86 per cent of the Rs 48,889 crore purchases made by 95 central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) from various enterprises.
Central ministries and departments have procured goods worth Rs 19,000 crore in the first half (April-September) of the current financial year. According to the official data available on the MSME Ministry’s Sambandh portal, which monitors public procurement policy, procurement was made from 53,475 micro and small enterprises (MSEs).
The H1 procurement from MSEs was 38.86 per cent of the Rs 48,889 crore purchases made by 95 central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) from various enterprises.
According to the public procurement policy, CPSEs are mandated to procure a minimum of 25 per cent of their total annual purchases of products and/or services from MSEs. The policy also has a specified sub-target of 4 per cent procurement from MSEs owned by SC-ST entrepreneurs and 3 per cent from MSEs owned by women entrepreneurs.
Out of the total procurement made by CPSEs from MSEs in the first of the current financial year, 1.51 per cent amounting to nearly Rs 740 crore was procured from 1,939 SC-ST-owned MSEs. On the other hand, 1.83 per cent procurement worth Rs 893 crore was made from 5,218 women MSEs, according to the data.
Meanwhile, procurement during FY24 from MSEs stood at Rs 73,410 crore from 2.54 lakh MSEs, up from Rs 64,721 crore worth procurement from 2.36 lakh MSEs in FY23.
Importantly, MSME Ministry’s minister of state Shobha Karandlaje last month had said that a memorandum will be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for public sector units to prioritise the purchase of goods from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), PTI had reported.
Revealing that large PSUs are importing many raw materials from other countries, Karandlaje had said that her ministry will appeal to PM Modi to direct these PSUs to prioritise purchasing raw materials from MSMEs.
