Gujarat MSMEs To Become Role Models For Entire Country
Once again, Gujarat-based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector is all set to become a role model for the entire country in adopting digital manufacturing practices.
Ten shortlisted MSMEs of Gujarat from diverse manufacturing backgrounds will get year-long hand holding in digitising their businesses and boosting productivity. Once established as “Digital Manufacturing Champions”, these MSMEs will share their growth and success stories with MSMEs across India.
Seven major players, including the Walmart Group and Invoicemart (a Trade Receivables Discounting System or TReDS), will be roped in to train MSMEs. The latter will help companies resolve credit challenges faced by them.
The other players with whom MoUs will be signed include M1xchange, an online exchange for TReDS set up under RBI approval to facilitate discounting of invoices on a pan-India basis; MSMEX; Power2SME; BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and the Village Craft Store, an eco-friendly online store.
The Gujarat government will execute the programme in association with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technologies (MeitY), the government of India and NASSCOM Centre of Excellence.
Commenting on the development, Gujarat Head of NASSCOM Centre of Excellence Amit Saluja said, “NASSCOM along with state and central governments will build an ecosystem for the adoption of digital technologies in the MSME manufacturing sector to increase their productivity.”
He added, “Under this programme, the 10 shortlisted small and medium enterprises from different sectors and districts of Gujarat will be given handholding to adopt digital skills, get access to digital providers and help in budgetary planning for technology adoption.”
The 10 MSMEs were identified via workshops held in different clusters of Gujarat. They belong to diverse sectors like pharmaceutical, agro processing, heavy engineering, textile, furniture, plastic, gems and jewellery, electronics, automotive, machinery and chemical.
