KOLKATA: Subhrakant Panda, managing director and CEO of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys (IMFA), has been elected as president of the International Chromium Development Association (ICDA).
Mr Panda is only the third Indian to head the Paris-based apex body of the chromium industry in nearly three decades of its existence.
With membership base from 26 countries across five continents, ICDA is the voice of the industry dealing with chromium in all its forms. It is proactive on the impact of the industry's processes, products and services on people and the environment.
The association keeps a watch on regulatory issues and appraises its members with the advantages of new technological processes. It also provides risk and hazard assessment information, shares reviews on data by independent organizations and suggests consistent responses to health, safety and environment issues.
Incidentally, IMFA, one of the country's leading integrated producers of value added ferro chrome, was one of the founding members of ICDA when it was formed in 1984.
