Markets up in early trade ahead of RBI policy review

A benchmark index of the equities markets Tuesday recovered by over 27 points in early trade as funds and investors made selective buying ahead of the RBI's quarterly monetary policy review, amid a firming Asian trend.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), gained by 27.29 points, or 0.13 percent, to 19,620.57 with capital goods, IT and banking sector stocks leading the recovery. The index had lost nearly 710 points in the last four sessions.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty up by 11.85 points, or 0.20 percent, to 5,843.50.

In the Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 0.69 percent, Japan's Nikkei up by 1.38 points in early trade on Tuesday.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.24 percent lower in the previous session.
