Narayan Rane: 1.40 lakh applications received in 10 days of Vishwakarma scheme launch

The PM Vishwakarma scheme was launched for artisans and craftspeople involved in 18 traditional industries coming under the MSME sector. The scheme’s portal pmvishwakarma.gov.in was also launched by PM Modi at the India International Convention and Expo Center, known as Yashobhoomi, in New Delhi.

The PM Vishwakarma Scheme for artisans and craftspeople has received more than 1.4 lakh applications within the first 10 days of its launch on September 17th. Union minister of MSMEs Narayan Rane took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the progress. His post read, “PM Vishwakarma Yojana – 10 days – 1.40 lakh+ applications

It is a matter of joy to receive more than 1.40 lakh applications within 10 days of the launch of PM Vishwakarma Scheme for Vishwakarma brothers and sisters. 

A huge number of applications received within 10 days of the launch of this scheme, which was made as a result of the visionary thinking of the respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, shows the unexpected success and necessity of the scheme.

PM Vishwakarma Scheme will prove to be a milestone for the all-round development of our Vishwakarma brothers and sisters who have been socially and economically backward for years and will give them their lost respect and identity.”

The PM Vishwakarma scheme was launched for artisans and craftspeople involved in 18 traditional industries coming under the MSME sector. The scheme’s portal pmvishwakarma.gov.in was also launched by PM Modi at the India International Convention and Expo Center, known as Yashobhoomi, in New Delhi.

The scheme provides recognition to artisans and craftsmen through ID and certification. Additionally, the government provides basic skill training for seven days (40 hours), and advanced training for 15 days (120 hours), with a Rs 500 stipend per day during the training period. Other than this, a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000 and a collateral-free loan of Rs 1 lakh in the first tranche, and Rs 2 lakh in the second tranche are also available. These loans are available at a concessional 5 per cent interest with an interest subvention cap of 8 per cent to be paid by the MSME Ministry.

The 18 traditional trades included by the government under the scheme are fishing net maker, tailor (darzi), washerman (dhobi), garland maker (malakaar), barber (nai), doll and toy maker (traditional), basket/ mat/ broom maker/ coir weaver, mason (rajmistri), cobbler (charmkar/shoesmith/footwear artisan), sculptor (moortikar/stone carver), stone breaker, potter (kumhaar), goldsmith (sonar), locksmith, hammer and tool kit maker, blacksmith (lohar), armourer, boat maker, carpenter (suthar).

Vishwakarma Jayanti is celebrated in reverence to Lord Vishwakarma who is considered the divine architect or the god of architecture and is worshipped as the deity for all involved in craftsmanship such as artisans, mechanics, architects, factory workers, engineers etc.
