Prez to present National Awards to MSMEs Wednesday


The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, will give away the National Awards to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the national capital on Wednesday, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of MSME, K. H. Muniyappa told media at a press conference today.

"This year's total numbers of National Awardees are 108, including 39 from MSME Sector, 45 from Khadi & Village Industries and 18 from Coir Industries in different categories and 6 Banks," said Muniyappa.

"The Awards are given to MSMEs for outstanding performance in Entrepreneurship, Research and Development, Innovation and Quality Products," he added.

The Ministry of MSME is organizing the National Awards Function for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee will be the Chief Guest and present the National Awards to successful MSMEs and Banks on this occasion. MSME Minister, K.H. Muniyappa, will preside over the Function.

National Awards were instituted in 1983 to felicitate the outstanding performers in the MSME sector in the areas of Entrepreneurship, R&D, Product Quality and innovation.

The awards are also given to outstanding achievers in Khadi, Village Industries & Coir sector as well as to Banks in recognition of their credit support to the Small and Micro Enterprises.

The First, Second and Third National Awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, Rs. 75,000/- and Rs. 50,000/- respectively, a certificate and a trophy.

One Special Award is given to one outstanding woman entrepreneur, one outstanding entrepreneur from SC/ST community and one outstanding entrepreneur from North Eastern Region.

National Awards are also given to Banks for Excellence in MSE lending and Excellence in lending to Micro Enterprises.
