NEW DELHI: Citi economist Rohini Malkaniwill join the finance ministry for three months beginning July 15 to bring an outside perspective to the economy.
Malkani will join the economic division of the department of economic affairs as a consultant, a finance ministry official told ET. In her last note to clients, Rohini said India was largely battling domestic issues in the last couple of years, but some newer global problems have emerged.
"Its not only India's problem (all EM's hit, and vulnerable), and while some domestic concerns have receded since, it is hurting India," Rohini said referring to possibility of tapering of US monetary stimulus. She expects the Indian economy to expand 5.7% in the current financial year.
