A benchmark index for the equities market gained 84-points in early trade on increased buying by funds as well as retail investors at prevailing levels.
The 30-scrip Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) rose by 83.98-points, or 0.44 percent, to trade at 18,919.75-points, with sectoral indices led by oil and gas, capital goods and realty, trading in positive zone with gains up to 1 percent.
The broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 22.10-points, or 0.38 percent, to 5,704.65.
In the Asian region, Japan's Nikkei fell by 1 percent in early trade today, while Hong Kong markets remained closed.
