Walmart Vriddhi partners with D&B to help MSMEs with credit access, bid on contracts, more

Under the MoU signed between Swasti, the programme partner and Dun & Bradstreet, the number will be assigned to MSMEs registered under the programme through Dun & Bradstreet’s identity resolution process.

Walmart Vriddhi, the supplier development programme by Walmart in India has partnered with data and analytics company Dun & Bradstreet to provide MSMEs with D-U-N-S (Data Universal Numbering System) number which is a unique nine-digit number to identify a business worldwide and track its credit activity. Under the MoU signed between Swasti, the programme partner and Dun & Bradstreet, the number will be assigned to MSMEs registered under the programme through Dun & Bradstreet’s identity resolution process.

MSMEs will be able to use the D-U-N-S number to apply for a loan with a financial institution, for credit with a business partner, apply to become a vendor or supplier of a company or bid on contracts locally or internationally.

“By providing D-U-N-S numbers freely, we hope to enhance the visibility of participating businesses, enabling them to access opportunities. Additionally, by contributing content for the learning module, we’re investing in skilling initiatives, empowering MSMEs with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive,” said Preeta Misra, Senior Director, Credibility & Business Insights Group (CBIG), ESG and SME, Dun & Bradstreet.

Dun & Bradstreet will also offer two learning modules on government schemes for MSMEs and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) to simplify the complex information MSMEs seek and identify the right programmes and opportunities to help them scale.

“Since its inception, Walmart Vriddhi has been engaged with MSMEs to support their learning and market connectivity, which has contributed to their business growth, particularly on e-commerce platforms,” said Joseph Julian, Program Director, Swasti. Swasti, a part of the social enterprise platform Catalyst Group, is a nonprofit with expertise in community development.

Last year, Dun & Bradstreet had announced enabling D-U-N-S number for MSMEs including sellers part of the government’s open e-commerce project Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to increase their visibility and expand access to global markets.

In 2021, Dun & Bradstreet had signed MoU with BSE for D-U-N-S number to MSMEs via the BSE SME platform.
